Chancellor Merryl Tisch, the recently elected leader of the Board of Regents, urged members of the Educational Conference Board to work together with state education leaders to make sure New York is in the running for federal Race to the Top funding.

"I believe New York is well positioned to be an aggressive applicant," Tisch said.

In a wide-ranging dialog that touched on everything from charter schools to reinventing the State Education Department, Tisch pledged an open door for the state's education groups.

ECB is a broad coalition of the major educational organizations in the state representing parents, teachers, school administrators and school board members.
