Pink will be joining the colors of fall as thousands of NYSUT members make strides against breast cancer in fundraisers across the state this weekend.

From Jamestown Community College in western New York and across the state to Long Beach on Long Island, unionists will take steps, and raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society's largest fundraiser.

NYSUT's Maria Neira will lead the NYSUT team at Washington Park in Albany. She noted that thousands have already been walking in Buffalo, Binghamton, Corning, Rochester, Syracuse, Washington County and in Waterloo.

"This event is an inspiration," Neira said. "It's a testament to solidarity when we all gather to honor breast cancer survivors, raise awareness about the disease, and - literally - to help save lives."

Three years ago NYSUT, a flagship sponsor, was the first organization to raise $1 million in a single year and is still the only team to top that milestone mark, according to the American Cancer Society.

In additon to sites already listed, walks this weekend are in Albion, Central Valley, Utica, Wappingers Falls and at Manhattanville College in Westchester. In New York City there are walks in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Central Park, Queens and Staten Island.

On Oct. 24, walkers in the North Country will be making strides at Queensbury High school and at the Thompson Park Pavilion in Watertown.
