cutlerChampioning the 75th anniversary of the Social Security program, NYSUT Secretary Treasurer Lee Cutler joined a large crowd of current and retired workers at Retiree Day at the New York State Fair.

Cutler was one of several speakers at the final event in a month-long celebration to mark the signing of the Social Security Act by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935. NYSUT, teaming up with the AARP and the state Office for the Aging, participated in several events to raise awareness of the benefits of the program for retirees and working families.

This fall the statewide union is launching a "Fix it; don't nix it" campaign urging lawmakers to keep Social Security on solid financial ground and preserve it for generations to come.
