New research reports feature TED as a model evaluation system

Recent research reports by the National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality (TQ Center) include NYSUT's TED system as an example of a high-quality teacher evaluation system.

The TQ Center is working to ensure teacher evaluation reform succeeds by helping states and school districts build meaningful professional learning into the design and implementation of teacher evaluation systems; TED, NYSUT's system of Teacher Evaluation and Development, was created by six labor/management Innovation Teams across New York State to integrate evaluations in a continuum that advances teacher practice and student learning.

• Toward the Effective Teaching of New College and Career Ready Standards: Making Professional Learning Systemic. This brief describes the elements necessary to align state-level policies and practices from professional development to systemic professional learning. NYSUT's TED System is highlighted as a state association initiative to watch.
• Generating Teaching Effectiveness: The Role of Job-Embedded Professional Learning in Teacher Evaluation. This brief describes the federal policy changes regarding teacher evaluation systems and highlights the research on how teachers learn best, and specifically how teachers learn from evaluation to generate increased teaching effectiveness. NYSUT's TED System is described in detail as a practical example of an evaluation system that promotes professional learning.
• Linking Teacher Evaluation to Professional Development: Focusing on Improving Teaching and Learning. This brief lays out an informal framework for using evaluation results to target professional growth opportunities for teachers within an aligned system of evaluation, leading to high levels of teacher practice and student learning. NYSUT's TED System incorporates these framework elements.
