Federation of Nurses/United Federation of Teachers
Barbara Wisdom is a seasoned veteran who champions the union banner. A registered nurse with 26 years of experience, she is UFT vice chapter chair for the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, the largest such home care agency in the country. She has mentored new nurses and has served as a "buddy" for both nurses and non-nursing personnel.
Wisdom articulates in a clear and consistent manner the value of our union and our accomplishments. She brings a wealth of knowledge, nursing experience and critical insight into issues, and she is a wonderful liaison with all health care workers represented by the UFT and NYSUT.
A nurse is all that Wisdom ever wanted to be. She considers it a lifelong goal to serve those who have entrusted their care to her hands at the most vulnerable time of their lives.
United Federation of Teachers
Rosemarie Thompson has been involved with the union as well as the New York State School Counseling Association since 1998. She has been a Region 10 Governor and is now president-elect of the NYSSCA. Her leadership brings together the commitment, protection and advocacy forces of the union and the strong vision for counselors of the state association. She will continue to grow this collaboration to bring about effective change that both advances the profession and improves outcomes for students across the state.
Thompson serves as the UFT Guidance Counselor Chapter leader. She advocates for members in the city's Department of Education and at legislative hearings and community forums across the city. A sought-after authority on the guidance practice in her own right, she initiated the annual Guidance Counselors Conference bringing leading experts and relevant professional learning to her UFT sisters and brothers.
