ALBANY, N.Y. April 13, 2016 — New York State United Teachers President Karen E. Magee released the following statement today in support of striking Verizon workers:

“On behalf of NYSUT’s officers and all of its 600,000-plus members, I stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters represented by the Communication Workers of America and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in their fight for a fair contract with Verizon. Verizon’s unionized employees provide the expertise that is responsible for the company’s record profits. NYSUT’s officers and members call on Verizon to immediately return to the bargaining table and negotiate a new contract that treats its workers with fairness, dignity and respect.”

New York State United Teachers is a statewide union with more than 600,000 members in education, human services and health care. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
