NYSUT statement on Obama's Supreme Court nomination

ALBANY, N.Y. March 16, 2016 – New York State United Teachers released the following statement on President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“We are pleased that President Obama has fulfilled his constitutional obligation and moved forward a qualified nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court. The U.S. Senate should now fulfill its constitutional obligation and give Judge Garland a fair hearing.

“It is vitally important to NYSUT’s membership that the Supreme Court respects the American labor movement, civil rights, public education and affordable health care for all."

New York State United Teachers is a statewide union with more than 600,000 members in education, human services and health care. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
