ALBANY, N.Y. June 22, 2017 — The State Education Department has rescinded its “gag order” that restricted teachers from discussing questions on this June’s Regents exams, New York State United Teachers said today.

“This is a clear victory for educators.  Teachers must be able to speak out about unfair or erroneous exam questions that hurt their students — a point we emphasized in successfully pressing the department to rescind its gag order,” said NYSUT President Andy Pallotta.  “We thank the Department for its responsiveness to the concerns we raised on behalf of our members.”

New York State United Teachers is a statewide union with more than 600,000 members in education, human services and health care.  NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
