NYSUT members throughout the state of New York help to lift up and support our students from all backgrounds. The work of our teachers, assistants, aides, therapists and other school employees can be life changing for students who need our support each and every day. Their work is supported by a strong union that always has their back.

Nowhere is that strong union support for students more important than in schools that serve our children with special needs.

Take action NOW at the NYSUT Member Action Center to send Inspire CEO/President Marcel Martino a strong, clear message that as a proud educator and union member, you insist that he settle this labor dispute for their students!

Unfortunately, management at Inspire Kids in Orange County is failing to put the needs of the young children with developmental disabilities whom they serve first by rejecting the union proposals that are meant to ensure students get the level of services they need and deserve.

In order to best serve the unique needs of these preschool students, the union is demanding action to address issues that have impacted the school environment. For example, therapists have high caseloads that don't allow them to provide the services needed. Classrooms are understaffed because of low pay. Turnover is high, and retention is low. And the list goes on and on.

We are writing today as a call to action. After years of frustrating negotiations, the staff has voted to take a drastic step for their students and hold a one-day strike on Friday, February 22nd. If you are near Orange County, JOIN THE STRIKE at the Inspire school (2 Fletcher Street in Goshen) 7:30 AM – 4 PM.

Fighting for resources for our students is what we do as union members. I hope you will join your fellow brothers and sisters in solidarity as we prove that the only way to provide necessary resources for New York State students is to support a strong New York union.

In solidarity,

Andrew Pallotta
NYSUT President
