With protective gear running low for front-line health care workers, Kingsborough Community College lab technicians donated hundreds of pairs of gloves, goggles, lab coats and hospital grade disinfectants and hand washes for Bellevue Hospital workers.

Alicia Trust, a chief lab technician at Kingsborough's biology department, said both she and department chair Mary Dawson received a number of emails urgently asking for donations of any available protective gear. With state and New York City supply lines drying up, Trust and fellow chief lab techs John Acevedo, Eulalee Cambridge and Maria Norako, all union members of the Professional Staff Congress/CUNY, dug through the microbiology and other labs that use personal protective equipment

“We even diverted a new delivery of gloves and alcohol,” Trust said.

"Our prayers and good wishes go out to all those health care workers on the front line — and those of us who are suffering or lost someone to this horrible virus," Trust said.
