This has been a school year unlike any other. Before we bring the 2019-2020 academic year to a close, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for your incredible work under unprecedented circumstances.
Back in September, no one could have predicted how this year would play out – all the virtual classrooms, YouTube lessons and graduation caravans. But you rose to the occasion, proving what we have known all along: New York’s educators are proud professionals who are deeply committed to the growth and wellbeing of the children in our care.
More than anything else, you showed that public schools and public educators are fundamental in the lives of our students and the health of our communities. In addition to caring for your own families while adapting to new technologies, so many of your volunteered your time to help feed families in need, send notes of encouragement to essential workers and provide protective gear to health care workers.
You are heroes. You inspired us every day. We are proud to lead your statewide union, and are committed to representing you and the students you serve.
So, on behalf of NYSUT, we thank you for a job well done.
