This month, NYSUT’s Social Justice Department will continue its “Truth Talks” virtual series with two new installments dedicated to raising historical awareness.

Join us on Thursday, May 22, at 5:30 p.m. as we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with Mikayla Vu, Field Representative for AFT Massachusetts and MA Chapter appointee to the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance National Executive Board. Mikayla assists locals in organizing, grievance handling and contract negotiations all with the intention to strengthen local unions and improve workers’ rights in the workplace.

On Friday, May 30, at 2:00 p.m. join us for a powerful conversation exploring the rich legacy of Jewish American activism at the crossroads of civil rights, labor and education. Esteemed advocates Alan Lubin, former NYSUT executive vice president, and Arieh Lebowitz, executive director of the Jewish Labor Committee, will examine Jewish Americans' historical and ongoing role in advancing equity, solidarity and justice for all.

Truth Talks is an initiative from the NYSUT Members of Color Affinity and Action project and Many Threads, One Fabric that seeks to amplify the contributions of diverse communities that have been overlooked in traditional narratives.

“As a union representing educators, health care workers and other professionals, we believe that knowledge is power and that our collective strength grows when we acknowledge and honor the full scope of history,” said NYSUT Secretary-Treasurer J. Philippe Abraham. Learn more at nysut.org/socialjustice.
