During its annual food drive, the Newburgh Teachers Association collected over 1,000 pounds of canned and non-perishable goods for the Deacon Jack Seymour Food Pantry. The pantry is located in the City of Newburgh where approximately 830 client families are served each week, many of which are families of our students.
“We know that some of our own students rely on resources like the food pantry,” said Newburgh Teachers Association President Stacy Moran. “That makes this work even more meaningful. We’re not just helping strangers—we’re supporting our own school community.”
Participation was widespread, with contributions coming from faculty and staff at every school in the district. NTA members shared their collective belief that giving back is not just an act of kindness, but a responsibility.
“As educators, we see firsthand the challenges many of our students and their families face,” Moran explained. “Giving back to the community is essential because when families are supported, students are better able to learn, grow, and thrive.”
Through efforts like this annual food drive, Moran said they hope to demonstrate that when a community comes together with purpose, the impact can be both immediate and lasting.
