Emil Voigt, longtime president of the Jericho Teachers Association and a former member of the NYSUT Board of Directors, died Nov. 18. Active in development of VOTE-COPE, NYSUT's voluntary political action fund, he led the Jericho TA from 1970 to 2001 and served as an at-large NYSUT director from the 1970s to 2001, when he retired.

Alan Shapiro, a leader in student-centered education, died Jan. 28 after a short illness. He was 85.
