with Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis

Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis, the first Hispanic woman to serve in the U.S. Cabinet, is featured on this year's NYSUT poster that celebrates the important contributions of Hispanic Americans.

Printed in both English and Spanish, the poster is issued annually to mark Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.

Solis was raised in California by immigrant parents from Nicaragua and Mexico who had strong union roots. Her father was a Teamsters shop steward in Mexico, and organized for the Teamsters after arriving in the United States. Her mother was a member of the United Rubber Workers and an advocate for proper working conditions.

Members can request a free poster by emailing orders@nysutmail.org. Reference Project No. 514A_11, and include your name and mailing address. Local presidents can request posters in bulk; quantities are limited.
