NYSUT subject area committee members recently participated in a Common Core Standards Immersion Institute presented by the GE Foundation and Student Achievement Partners. District teams, teachers and other educational leaders from across the country took a deeper look into the content of the common core standards in literacy and math, with a focus on meaningful work that can occur later this spring. Participants reviewed sample lessons and assessment questions, as well as existing curriculum and materials. Helpful tools to review district materials for focus, quality and alignment were shared, along with strategies to track progress.
The NYSUT Ad Hoc Committee for Common Core Learning Standards met in February to discuss development of resources and templates for use by NYSUT members as the common core curriculum is phased in. These materials will eventually be available on the NYSUT website and become the backbone of training provided by NYSUT's Education & Learning Trust and teacher centers.
