Character ed symposium tackles Common Core

The Academy for Character Education will host its 14th annual symposium Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Sage College of Albany. The topic this year is "Strengthening the learning climate: How character education empowers students and enhances the Common Core: Are WE in this together?" The symposium will feature award-winning educators and schools with a focus on character education.

Share my NBCT lesson

Share My Lesson, an online community created by the American Federation of Teachers and TES Connect that boasts 300,000 users and more than 285,000 resources and lesson plans, is partnering with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, the organization which administers the rigorous National Board Certification process.

The site, www.sharemylesson.com/nbct, will highlight the contributions of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) and promote their participation in the SML community.

Recycle-Bowl kicks off

Registration for the third annual Recycle-Bowl youth recycling competition is open to all public and private schools in the United States.

The competition runs from Oct. 21 through Nov. 15, culminating on America Recycles Day. At the close of the four-week competition, the school in each state and the District of Columbia that collects the most recyclable material per capita will win $1,000. A national champion will receive an additional grand prize.
