Thanks a million

Farmers Insurance is helping anyone who has been inspired by their teacher to give thanks. In January, Farmers, through its University of Farmers Education Foundation, launched the two-fold "Thank a Million Teachers" initiative and grant program.

In the first stage of the program anyone can go online to www.thankamillionteachers.com/thank-a-teacher/ and write a thank you note to an influential educator. Once a teacher receives a "thanks," he or she is eligible to submit a proposal for a grant.

Farmers is committing $1 million to help support classrooms and education programs nationwide. This year, the company will award 150 grants of up to $2,500. Educators can use the money to buy school supplies through AdoptAClassroom.org or apply it toward professional certification programs through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

To submit a thank you, a grant proposal or for more information visit www.thankamillionteachers.com. The deadline for submitting a grant proposal is Oct. 31.
