The United States City Average Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) for January 2021 was 261.582 — representing a change of 1.4 percent over the index for January 2020.

The Northeast Area Consumer Price Index for January 2021 was 275.427 — representing a change of 1.1 percent over the index for January 2020.

The New York-Northern New Jersey Area Consumer Price Index for January 2021 was 285.525 — representing a change of 1.2 percent over the index for January 2020.

The February CPI will be available March 10, 2021.

Future projections of the CPI by businesses and economic organizations are found in the complete document. CPI increases are projected at 2.3 percent for 2021 and 2.1 percent for 2022.
