Take a Look at Teaching summits summits bring together students (middle school, high school, and college), teachers, school-related professionals, higher education professionals, administrators, community members, policy makers, and teacher candidates to discuss the challenges facing the teaching profession, and to cultivate relationships within the education community.

The goal of the summits is to highlight the benefits of a career in education, brainstorm solutions for tackling the teacher shortage, and encourage individuals of color to enter the teaching field.
Summits in school year 2019-20 are slated for Yonkers (Oct. 3) and Riverhead (Nov. 1).
During the 2018-19 school year, summits took place in Syracuse, Buffalo, Potsdam, Rochester and Albany.
Interested in hosting a local campus conversation on teacher recruitment and retention?
NYSUT is developing a Campus Conversation Toolkit to help local union leaders work with community partners to plan events.
Goals include strengthening partnerships between educator preparation programs and P-12 schools; expanding student knowledge about the teaching profession; and encouraging future teachers/career changers to teach needed subject areas and in hard-to-staff districts.
