NYSUT is proud to represent thousands of working professionals in the private sector.

From private school educators and staff, to academic and professional employees at private-sector colleges, to nurses and other health care providers at not-for-profit medical institutions, the statewide union’s dedicated private-sector members provide valuable services to citizens statewide.

4201 Schools

Who we are: Professionals who educate and care for children who are deaf, blind, severely physically disabled, or emotionally disturbed.

What we’re fighting for: Education funding parity with public school districts, regular, predictable tuition rate increases and staff salary increases.


853 Schools

Who we are: Professionals who educate and care for students with disabilities who attend privately operated day and residential programs.

What we’re fighting for: Education funding parity with public school districts, regular, predictable tuition rate increases and staff salary increases.


Private 4-Year Colleges

Who we are: Faculty members, professional staff and other employees at private institutions of higher education.

What we’re fighting for: Fair wages, hours and improved terms and conditions of employment.


Adjunct Faculty at Private Colleges

Who we are: Part-time, contingent and non-tenure-track faculty employed through short-term contracts.

What we’re fighting for: Better wages and working conditions. Many adjunct faculty members receive poverty-level wages and lack suitable office space and a path to tenure-track employment. 


Library Staff

Who we are: Librarians and general staff members at a variety of private libraries statewide.  

What we’re fighting for: Better wages, hours and working conditions and fostering positive working relationships with library administrators.


Non-Profit Organizations

Who we are: Professionals employed by private, not-for-profit institutions

What we’re fighting for: Better wages, benefits and working conditions.


Healthcare Professionals

Who we are: Nurses and other healthcare professions who work in home health care, hospitals and other privately operated facilities.

What we’re fighting for: An end to mandatory overtime, better wages and benefits and the implementation of safe staffing guidelines


Special Needs

Who we are: Professionals ranging from registered nurses, clinical specialists, social workers, licensed practical nurses, child care workers and activities and recreation specialists working at a broad range of education facilities.

School-Related Professionals

Who we are: Working professionals who provide education assistance to p-12 teachers both within and outside the classroom.
