Mark Chaykin, NYSUT's director of field operations, recently accepted the American Cancer Society's Excellence in Philanthropy award on behalf of the union.

Since partnering with the American Cancer Society in 2002, NYSUT has raised nearly $11 million for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign, which supports breast cancer research and provides access to mammograms to help in early detection.

Chaykin helps spearhead the union's participation in the annual Strides Walk. Last year, more than 10,000 NYSUT members mobilized across the state during the fall Strides campaign, raising $1.2 million.
