The United States City Average Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) for January 2020 was 257.971 — representing a change of 2.5 percent over the index for January 2019.

The Northeast Area Consumer Price Index for January 2020 was 272.316 — representing a change of 2.3 percent over the index for January 2019.

The New York-Northern New Jersey Area Consumer Price Index for January 2020 was 282.020— representing a change of 2.5 percent over the index for January 2019.

The  February CPI will be available March 11, 2020.

Future projections of the CPI by businesses and economic organizations are found in the complete document. CPI increases are projected at 2.1 percent for 2020 and 2.0 percent for 2021.
