disaster relief for health care workers

NYSUT Disaster Relief Fund

An urgent appeal for donations to support our Health Care Workers.

NYSUT members across the state are quite literally risking their lives, serving on the front lines in hospitals and other health-care facilities throughout the Empire State during the deadly COVID-19 crisis. And with New York now the epicenter of the nation's pandemic, NYSUT wants to reassure our brave "Health Care Heroes" that their union is there for them while they selflessly put themselves in harm’s way to care for all of us.

That's why we're urging our members to donate to the NYSUT Disaster Relief Fund.

Proceeds will go directly toward purchasing and providing Personal Protective Equipment, food and other supplies for all of our dedicated health care workers.

MAKE A DONATION

The self-sacrifice nurses, doctors and other health-care professionals are making is immeasurable, as many of them are working without the necessary equipment needed to keep them safe. And, the situation continues to grow more dire. We need your help to right this wrong, and a donation to the NYSUT Disaster Relief Fund is an important step toward helping to ensure the well-being of our Health Care Heroes. Remember, we are all in this together.

New tax incentives for charitable giving

The recently passed Coronavirus Relief Act (CARES) provides some good news for all union members. It offers new charitable giving incentives in an effort to help charitable organizations through this difficult time.

For the 2020 calendar year, an individual who does not itemize their charitable contributions may deduct monetary contributions of up to $300 made to 501(c)3 charitable organizations on the individual tax return. This will be a deduction in the main body of the individual tax form and will not require the taxpayer to itemize using Schedule A. Individuals who continue to itemize contributions on Schedule A will still have the ability to claim charitable deductions such as these.

Please consider making a contribution to the NYSUT Disaster Relief Fund, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, to take advantage of this new tax benefit.
