What You'll Do
Training Academy (June 29 - July 1, 2026)
Join fellow members at NYSUT Headquarters in Latham for an intensive two-day training covering:

- Building member-to-member connections
- Practice sessions and role-playing
- Data collection and organizing tools

Field Organizing (6 Weeks Following Training)
Put your training into action in your home region:
- Conduct door-to-door member outreach
- Have meaningful conversations about union priorities
- Build relationships with members in your community
- Collect data to strengthen future campaigns
- Receive ongoing support and coaching from experienced organizers

Program Requirements
What We Ask of You:
✅ Participate in initial training June 29 through July 1, 2026, in Albany, NY.
✅ Perform weekly check-in calls with your team lead and participate in team debriefs.
✅ Conduct one-to-one conversations with workers at their homes and move workers to action.
✅ Read maps and follow digital map program instructions.
✅ Track your activity and conversation using a phone app.
✅ Help develop a personalized organizing plan with your team lead.
✅ Attend the final debrief via Zoom, from 5 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 21.
✅ Speak with members who have diverse political views that may differ from yours.
What We Provide
✅ $100 stipend to attend training
✅ $25 per hour for all organizing work after initial training
✅ Full reimbursement for mileage and tolls
✅ All training expenses covered
✅ Comprehensive training from experienced organizers

✅ Certificate of completion for professional development

Field Work:
You'll organize in your home region where you live or work.
Schedule Flexibility:
While 12 shifts are ideal, the minimum requirement is 6 shifts. We'll work with your schedule.

Q: Do I need to be released from work to participate?
A: Training takes place June 30-July 1, and field work is scheduled flexibly during summer break. Most participants complete shifts outside of work hours.

A: Absolutely! Retired members bring valuable experience and often have more schedule flexibility.
Q: What if I can't complete all 12 shifts?
A: The minimum requirement is 6 shifts. We work with your availability.
