Black History Month

Andrew Young, BHM 2026

NYSUT Celebrates Black History with these free posters:

Andrew Young, BHM 2026

Andrew Young Poster: To commemorate Black History Month, we honor Andrew Young Jr., a civil rights leader who worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and helped organize historic campaigns such as Birmingham and Selma. He later broke barriers as the first African American elected to Congress from Georgia since Reconstruction and served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Mayor of Atlanta. His lifelong commitment to nonviolence, coalition-building, and human rights continues to inspire the work of educators and union members today.

Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks Poster: To honor the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks’ arrest, the department released a special statewide poster recognizing her courage, legacy, and the catalytic role she played in the modern Civil Rights Movement.

United States Colored Troops Poster

Colored Troops Poster: We continue to honor the United States Colored Troops, more than 180,000 African American soldiers who fought for the Union during the Civil War. Despite facing discrimination, unequal pay, and dangerous assignments, their courage and sacrifice were critical to defeating the Confederacy and advancing the cause of freedom. Their service not only helped preserve the nation but also laid the groundwork for the long struggle toward civil rights and equal citizenship for all.

NYSUT members may order posters for free or download at nysut.org/publications.
